Nokia Siemens Networks and private equity firm One Equity Partners have jointly bid for Nortel Networks Corp.'s optical networking and carrier ethernet business, according to reports. The insolvent telecommunications equipment maker started the auction for its optical networking and carrier ethernet businesses on Friday. Nokia Siemens is challenging Ciena Corp.'s more than $500 million bid for the Nortel assets, according to reports.  

Some of Nortel Networks' most-prized assets were on the auction block Friday as two technology giants put their best bids forward in hopes of gaining control. Both Ciena Corp. (NASDAQ:CIEN) and Nokia Siemens participated in an auction for the optical networking and carrier ethernet business at the New York offices of the insolvent technology giant's lawyers. As of 6 p.m. ET on Friday, a winner had yet to be determined.

Espoo, Finland-based mobile phone maker Nokia is reported to plan not having a stand at the Mobile World Congress 2010, which is to take place in Barcelona. The company focuses only on Nokia Siemens Networks for the event; at least this is what it stated when asked about its objectives. Wichita-based Dondlinger and Sons Construction Co. Inc. wanted to build the Siemens Energy Inc. plant in Hutchinson. Never got a chance, said company President Tom Dondlinger. "We tried to contact them and we could never get through. Could never get anybody to contact us, nothing," Dondlinger said Friday.

As part of its strategy to emerge a majority stakeholder in Bengaluru International Airport (BIAL), GVK Power and Infrastructure is making quick moves to acquire the 17% stake L&T has in the airport company. But for technicalities involved, GVK would have sealed the deal long back, a source tracking the developments said. Zurich Airports, which had sold 12% stake in BIAL to the company's subsidiary GVK Airport Developers Pvt Ltd recently, has the first right of refusal on L&T's 17% equity.
